Lemming.

Written by Erin on December 31, 2008 – 8:05 am

As the end of the year approaches every blogger out there is throwing down their 2009 predictions; I’m jumping off the cliff to throw down my own thoughts on the new year.

But don’t worry is isn’t some haughty predictions list, but merely a top 10 list of my hopes for marketing and technology in 2009.

1. MySpace will die. Enough of the glitter backgrounds, 10 mintue page downloads and endless random friend requests from half naked teenagers. Most of the cool kids have left anyways.

2. Everyone will stop hating on Twitter. You know you want to, like that one time in college. Get drunk and blame your experimental tweets on the booze. In four years if you’re not into it anymore you can just say you were going through a phase. Then you can follow me here

3. Spammers will learn correct grammar and proper English. Maybe more people would respond if they could read your spam emails or they contained plausable stories. Really I won the lottery in Nigeria, I didn’t even buy a lottery ticket?!

4. Mobile marketing will finally take off. The last few years have been predicted as The Year for mobile, please finally get big so the masses will figure out what the next big thing will be.

Phones.

Written by Erin on December 30, 2008 – 11:47 am

I am definitely not Apple fan girl, despite my iphone lust, but I concede that Apple knows what their doing. They’ve revolutionzed the music business (even if they’re tactics are slightly evil). Apples move into cell phones is no different, they’ve revolutionized the level of features and customization users can expect.

Blackberry is desperately trying to  salvage its reputation as THE phone for professionals and cool kids. The Blackberry Storm has adopted many of Apples features to compete (like their touch screen) and are currently running two ad campaigns. One campaign I absolutely love;  the other has actually made me scream at the tv.

Same.

Written by Erin on December 29, 2008 – 7:49 am

I’m pretty sure the type of people who fall for email scams are the same people who click on banner ads like this

annoying

I would love to meet the designers behind these ads. How do you sleep at night knowing you’ve put something like this out there?

Dad.

Written by Erin on December 28, 2008 – 11:40 am

JC Penny has done something incredibly right with their viral campaign for ‘The Doghouse’. My 60 some year old father excitedly told me all about this hilarious video/website his friend sent him. He had the freaking commercial memorized.

Now my dad had no idea it was from JC Penny’s; he doesn’t know what a viral campaign is; hell he’s not even really sure how it saw it online. But he loves it so much he told my brothers and uncles about it at Christmas.

I tried to explain what viral was and that it was actually from JC Penny. He didn’t care. He wanted me to show him how to upload his picture to the website because he felt he probably desereved it at some point in his life (possibly for the Christmas he bought the entire family a gym membership, thanks dad).

Well done JC Penny’s, bravo.

Just for my dad here is the website Beware of the Doghouse. Enjoy!

Cap'n.

Written by Erin on December 27, 2008 – 8:44 am

Captain Morgan always does some great ads. Their holiday ads are absolutely exceptional, I giggle and wish for a captain and coke everytime I watch them. I love the concept and the actors are awesome. Sadly there are no piggy back rides or rides home with the delivery man, but lots of holiday Miracles are afoot!

AOR for the Cap’n if Grey New York so Cheers! to a holiday campaign well done!

Miracle 1 of 4 – Coaster

Miracle 2 of 4 – Lime

Twitterverse.

Written by Erin on December 26, 2008 – 8:29 am

Hubspot released their state of the Twitterverse report a few days ago and I’m actually really surprised by some of the results. Decifinitely check it out for the full report, but here are a few tidbits.

  • 35% of users have 10 or fewer followers (really? not even spam follows them?)
  • Traffic has grown 600% over the last 12 months (not surprised by huge growth but 600% is amanzing)
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays are the most popular days to tweet (Thursday is my biggest tweeting day -check your own tweetstats)
  • The top 5 cities to tweet from are: London, San Francisco, NYC, Chicago and LA (not surprised by top 5, but thought SF would be above London)
  • 62% of users have uploaded a photo to their profile (that seems really low to me, do you have a picture up?)

If you’re on Twitter follow me here!

Ninjas.

Written by Erin on December 24, 2008 – 7:35 am

Ninjas. Pirates. Zombies. The web is full of all three. Are they good or evil? Who knows, but they do provide an incredible amount of entertainment. I definitely think there is potential for some advertisers to jump on the bandwagon and incorporate all three into some sort of crazy web adventure. Which would turn viral in a heartbeat and find itself plastered across all sorts of social media (So any advertisers who’ve stumbled on this with a huge ad budget, you’re welcome!).

While zombies are obviously enemies to everyone (since they don’t discriminate on the brain eating), pirates and ninjas have a natural hatred of each other. If you need proof of this absolute fact then check out the video below.

Wispa.

Written by Erin on December 23, 2008 – 10:35 am

I don’t even know what to say about this.

During my 6 monhts studying in London I did not become a fan of Wispa…but I’m loving the complete randomness of what they’ve put together.

You can also check out ForTheLoveofWispa.
