Spots.

Continuing on my TV spot kick for this week, here are a few of my favorite spots that I’ve recently noticed.

H&R Block “Whisper” by Campbell Mithun

H&R always has some good humerous tax time ads. This defintiely seems like something I would do.

Callout.

Written by Erin on January 28, 2009 – 4:50 pm

A few weeks ago I discovered one of the videos R/GA created for their textual harrasment campaign and absolutely loved it.

This week I discovered the campaigns website, ThatsNotCool and it is equally as entertaining and awesome.  I really hope the target demographic doesn’t find this site as hilarious and ineffective as I do becauuse youngins should really stop sending naked pictures of themselves. Not sure how they’re supporting this site and drive traffic, but I checked all the free web analytics sites I know and none of them even register thatsnotcool.com. Anyone out there know what other efforts are going into this campaign?

Very cool concept from Ikea!

Fact: Next to the Bible and Harry Potter, the Ikea Catalogue is the third most printed publication worldwide.

Youth.

Written by Erin on January 26, 2009 – 7:10 am

I have been campaigning for recess and nap time at the office for years now. I used to kill at four square and handball in my elementary school days!

I absolutely have no idea how Diet Pepsi is youthful, I think of soccer moms chugging the stuff, but BBDO Toronto seems to that it is. At least the ads are hilarious!

Check out Receess

Fact.

Written by Erin on January 21, 2009 – 12:36 pm

While watching the inaguration on CNN from the ever so comfy beds at Encore at Wynn in Vegas (plush amazing beds), I was uber disappointed in the graphis department of CNN. Did anyone else notice the Facts being posted on screen? Who wrote them? Why did they even bother to waste screen space with such astounding facts like:

Fact: Legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin is performing “My Country Tis of Thee”
(This was displayed as the Aretha Franklin is on screen singing the song)

They also include now, “now, next, later” graphics with such riveting announcements as
Now: Presidential Inauguration
Next: Vice President Sworn
Later: President

In addition to being incredibly vauge and obvious, they were pretty much just a waste of space on the screen. CNN can make holograms and crazy election maps but they can’t even get make simple graphics relevant.

Vacations.

Written by Erin on January 19, 2009 – 10:53 am

For all those who’ve lost their jobs recently there is a glimmer of hope, because everyone is doing something for the recession from Hyundai offering to take back your vehicle if you are laid off within 12 months of buying the car to all of the great giveaways.

Personally, I’d love to spend my time being unemployed on the beach in Austrailia which is why I’ve applied for the Island Reef Job. A promotion to support tourism in Queensland. But one has to think if you’re “prize” is an actual job (The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef) you might not see a lift in traffic as most people this appeals to are uneployed. Check out the view from your office.

If you don’t get hired for the Queensland isalnd job, you could try a win a free vacation from SunGlass Warehouse. They’ll pay for your flight, hotel, some spending money and some sunglasses and beach gear. Sweet! Plus you can get bonus entries for twittering, blogging  or emailing your friends.

Now wish me some luck as I head out to Vegas for the a few!

Hits.

Written by Erin on January 18, 2009 – 9:28 pm

Apparently the world goes on outside the office doors even when I’m too busy with actual work to pay attention…strange. Due to my extemly busy work week and vacation next week (wooohooo Vegas) I’ve put together the highlights of the past week or so in the marketing, social media, web world. I also made you this awesome piece of tiny ninja theater via. You’re welcome.

Life outside my office

There was the awesomeness of Twitter as displayed by David Armano raising over $15K in 24hours to help a family in need. It was crazy to see how fast this post was RT through my Twitter network and made such a big difference. Social media can do good things!

Burger King created my favorite FB app ever,  Whopper Sacrafice, which sacraficed over 230,000 friends before Facebook killed it off over “privacy concerns”. Do I even have to tell you how much I love it? I like to keep my friend list to around 100…I can always delete a few FB friends. But not you of course…Good recap on the app here

A whole new bunch of ad people lost their jobs and the agencies handled it poorly. Ugh. If you love the constant depression and sadness for your friends in the ad world you can follow AdAgencyLayoffs

A happy plane crash in the Hudson marked the 4th time in six months, I heard about it the big news story and saw pictures on Twitter before any news outlet knew what was going on.

Circuit City is almost dead.

Condoms have some great sex all on thier own.

Ideas.

Written by Erin on January 17, 2009 – 10:24 am

While I’m part of the new business team, I can’t always go after (or get) the clients that would give us the freedom to do innovative cool stuff; sometimes they don’t have the balls and sometimes its just not their target audience. I would love the budget and freedom to execute on some of these ideas…if you steal them just give me some credit (and some commission).
