Ideas.

Written by Erin on January 17, 2009 – 10:24 am

While I’m part of the new business team, I can’t always go after (or get) the clients that would give us the freedom to do innovative cool stuff; sometimes they don’t have the balls and sometimes its just not their target audience. I would love the budget and freedom to execute on some of these ideas…if you steal them just give me some credit (and some commission).

Classic.

Written by Erin on January 11, 2009 – 7:09 pm

If I liked wiskey, I would totally buy Canadian Club purely for the ads.

The campaign has been a staple with my Wired magazine for a few months, and I fall in love with them all over again each month. Both ads are  excuted beautifuly to evoke the 60s with a fantastic sense of humor.

You just can’t go wrong with the tag “Damn right your dad drank it”  for a whiskey.

Right-er.

AllState (whose commercials and spokesperson I love) is also doing some fabulous recession advertising. Their messaging is right on- “Its back to basics.”

AllState is able to utilize the fact that they started during the depression and speak to the fact they’ve survived all the recessions since then. Heck they even throw in their tagline and keep it feeling natural. Good work AllState!

Right.

Written by Erin on January 6, 2009 – 9:36 am

There are currently two advertisers getting it right in these rough economic times. Their messaging is on target, tone is full of empathy and their imagery soothing and familiar.

First is Walmart. Internationally hated, evil, souless Walmart is coming out with some phenonminal messaging that makes this Nordstom girl actually appreciate the mega store. They’ve emphasized the value of their products, showcased items (blue ray, video games, etc) that can be enjoyed by the family, together at home. Basically falling right in linewhat a retailer shouldbe doing during a recession.

Here’s one of the ads that focuses on gift cards but keeps the same tone and messaging of the rest of the product specific campaign (sorry about the qaulity).

The other advertiser getting it right is Hyundai.

Cap’n.

Written by Erin on December 27, 2008 – 8:44 am

Captain Morgan always does some great ads. Their holiday ads are absolutely exceptional, I giggle and wish for a captain and coke everytime I watch them. I love the concept and the actors are awesome. Sadly there are no piggy back rides or rides home with the delivery man, but lots of holiday Miracles are afoot!

AOR for the Cap’n if Grey New York so Cheers! to a holiday campaign well done!

Miracle 1 of 4 – Coaster

Miracle 2 of 4 – Lime

Dwarf.

Written by Erin on December 19, 2008 – 8:17 am

Getty images is serious about providing users with exactly what they are looking for in their photo library. The company monitors the terms used in their search enginge and if there are enough people searching for a particular photo, scene or person and no photo is available, Getty will commission a photo shoot. With that tidbit of information, a group came together that searched for a Rollerblading Dwraf. Getty Images responded by hiring a photographer to capture said rollerblading dwarf. Awesome.

If this is just a silly prank, its hiliarious. But if this campaignn is an inside stunt its f’ing brilliant. I heard this story about four times this week (and I’m not a Getty Images user or a creative dept person). The groups started a facebook group and the story tells everyone about a cool feature most users are unaware of with Getty Images. Perfect viral campaign.

Virgins.

Written by Erin on December 2, 2008 – 9:44 pm

Cripsin Porter is launching yet another campaign for Burger King’s Whopper. A few months after the Whopper Freakout, they’ve come up with Whopper Virgins. Check out the website and the spot below, the documentary will officially launch in 5 days.

Apparently some folks are mad at BK using the term virgins (really people?) and the whole sending crappy fast food to remote areas of the world.

Personally, I’d love to be in on these meetings at CP and with BK. How exactly do you pitch this? So I’d love to go to remote areas of Greenland and bring crazy locals some Whoppers to test them against your competitor.

Thanks to Agency Spy and the Twitterverse foor the heads up on this!

Spoiler Alert! They pick the Sourdough Jack from Jack in the Box…hmmm delicious.

FTR.

Written by Erin on November 21, 2008 – 12:19 pm

Awesome.

Without a doubt this is the best Recession themed spot ever created from Morgans Hotel Group

Walmart has been doing well with their newest campaign aimed at families looking to save money during the recession (resulting in an increase in their Q4 profits). But not quite the same as FTR.

Self-Promo.

Written by Erin on September 28, 2008 – 11:55 am

Agencies are the worst at doing their own advertising, this highlights some of the best.

7 and 8 are smart and I adore all of the holiday cards because that’s one promo piece we always struggle with.
