I don’t know why those of us interested in digital, computers, online technical stuff are all deemed to be geeks, but I totally embrace it. Which is why I am so in love with these three geek-tastic things.

Questions.

Written by Erin on May 11, 2009 – 4:58 pm

I wasn’t feeling well this morning so I spent some time napping and pondering some of the most perplexing issues in my life right now.

1. Do spammers get annoyed by spam? Have they ever purchased something from a spam email, tweet, blog comment, etc?

2. How many items does SkyMall sell every flight? Which random item is the most frequently purchased?

3. Are the banner ads with dancing people, flashing lights and bright colors really effective at conversion?

4. Why do people think that just because I’m their facebook friend I should belong to every FB group they belong to?

5. Why do people still hate on Twitter?

6. In 5 years, which ad networks will still be around?

7. Why does Victoria’s Secret email me every day? I couldn’t possibly need that many bras and panties.

8. Why do people still use IE?

9. How digital will my 5 year old niece’s life be by the time she’s my age?

10. What’s next?

Tech.

Written by Erin on April 23, 2009 – 9:16 pm

Ad:Tech was a fantastic experience. The discussions and panels were informative, interesting and relevant. I’ll share what I learned in the next couple of posts but also had to share three completely unimportant things I gleaned from my trip.

1) There are just not enough young women involved in digital advertising, ad tech, what ever you want to call it. I was one of the few younger ladies who was not running an exhibitor booth. I was also the only person in flip flops and jeans, come on people you’re not at the office you don’t HAVE TO wear those kahki pants, brown shoes and polo shirt. We’re digital – we’re supposed to be cooler than that!

2) Everyone says they’re a Digital Expert if they’ve been involved in the web since the 90s. This does not make you an expert, I’ve done a lot of things since the 90s; time alone does not make one an expert (or else I would put crayon coloring expert on my business cards).

3) Ad Networks are overly fertile and have spawned like Snuffalufagus and Lucy, the pet mice I had when I was little. If I knew how I would create sort of naming generator for new ad networks (Spoiler Alert: it will contain at least one fo the following words: ad, media or a misspelled word). Chances are the AdMediaNetwurk is described as the leading/best/largest performance-based advertising solution (it is not).

SlideRocket.

Written by Erin on August 1, 2008 – 3:10 pm

I’ve been amped on SlideRocket for a while. After watching the video by Scobleizer on the presentation tool, I signed up for the waiting list to get in on the private beta testing.

After weeks of waiting, I finally received my invite yesterday. I did the usual follow the URL, create an account, log in and enjoy. Only my account creating went horribly wrong somewhere along the way. The log in doesn’t recognize my id and password and the ‘I forgot my password’ link doesn’t work. So I can’t get through on my beta testing invite.

Needless to say I’m super bummed. My link no longer works to reset the account, because it shows it as a used invite. I need help getting through to the SlideRocket folks to get my account activated.

Totally bummed.
